We are the pub cyclists

We rode LeJog in June of this year. 1014 miles in 10 days staying and eating in pubs along the way. We are now starting to plan our next ride following our core values....

plodding on

The back to back bank holidays have been great for training, and made even better for all the sunshine. It was also the first 5.30 start where I didnt need bike lights.
I got 3 good rides in over the 4 days. 75 miles on Friday, 50 miles on Saturday and 100 miles on Monday. By far the worst ride was the 50 miler. I got it in my head that it was just a short ride, but 3 hours is still a long time when the wind is in your face and when you are bored. Even though the legs felt ok I just wanted to go home after 15 - 20 miles and sit on the sofa with a big bag of nachos and a pint. I plodded through and was just glad to get home. I wasnt surprised to see an average speed of under 16.5mph for the ride... I guess it was just one of those days. I know the same thing will happen at some point during LEJOG, I just hope it isn't too often. Conversely the 100 mile ride felt great, I was strong for the entire ride and averaged 17.5 mph. I was on a real high when I finished. Then I was reminded that I was to spend most of the afternoon in the trafford centre... someone pass the nachos and a pint!

As I plan to to take the last full weekend off before LEJOG, I only have 3 more weekends for training. Now the February/March weather is a dim and distant memory I am really enjoying all these long rides, although I wont miss the early starts. And happily I'm also about 1/2 stone lighter without going near a salad.
